strace Documentation

Some Fossies usage hints in advance:

  1. To see the Doxygen generated documentation please click on one of the items in the steelblue colored "quick index" bar above or use the side panel at the left which displays a hierarchical tree-like index structure and is adjustable in width.
  2. If you want to search for something by keyword rather than browse for it you can use the client side search facility (using Javascript and DHTML) that provides live searching, i.e. the search results are presented and adapted as you type in the Search input field at the top right.
  3. Doxygen doesn't incorporate all member files but just a definable subset (basically the main project source code files that are written in a supported language). So to search and browse all member files you may visit the Fossies
  4. strace-5.9.tar.xz contents page and use the Fossies standard member browsing features (also with source code highlighting and additionally with optional code folding).
README

This is strace - a diagnostic, debugging and instructional userspace utility with a traditional command-line interface for Linux. It is used to monitor and tamper with interactions between processes and the Linux kernel, which include system calls, signal deliveries, and changes of process state. The operation of strace is made possible by the kernel feature known as ptrace.

strace is released under the terms of the GNU Lesser General Public License version 2.1 or later; see the file COPYING for details. strace test suite is released under the terms of the GNU General Public License version 2 or later; see the file tests/COPYING for details.

See the file CREDITS for a list of authors and other contributors. See the file INSTALL for compilation and installation instructions. See the file NEWS for information on what has changed in recent versions. See the file README-hacking for information related to strace development.

System requirements: * Linux kernel >= 2.6.18 is recommended. Older versions might still work but they haven't been thoroughly tested with this release. * Linux kernel >= 2.5.46 is required. Older versions without a decent PTRACE_SETOPTIONS support will not work. * On mips, Linux kernel >= 2.6.15 is required. Older versions without a decent PTRACE_GETREGS support will not work. * On s390 and s390x, Linux kernel >= 2.6.27 is required. Older versions without a decent PTRACE_GETREGSET support will not work.
